How It Performed

Gentle cutting

Rounded blade tips built for puppies

The rounded stainless fixed blade is the headline feature for the small breeds and puppies this kit targets: the smoothed tips are far less likely to nick loose puppy skin around the belly and armpits. It is not a coat-crushing motor, and it does not need to be; on fine puppy fluff and Yorkie-type coats it glides without pulling.

Our Sminiker Professional All-in-One Grooming Kit review found the rounded edge reassuring for owners doing their first nervous puppy trim.

Safety note

For a squirmy puppy, do two or three short sessions rather than one long one; stop while it is still calm.

Quiet running

Around 52 dB keeps puppies calm

A soft 52 dB motor and a small, light body make this easy to hold one-handed while your other hand steadies a tiny dog. The Ni-MH pack charges from the supplied adapter rather than USB, which is worth knowing if you travel, but it gives ample runtime for a small breed. The low weight means you can groom on your lap, which most puppies prefer to a table.

Cordless operation lets you turn the dog freely without a lead snagging.

Safety note

Ni-MH cells last longest if you occasionally run them down and recharge fully rather than constant top-ups.

Coat suitability

Neat finish on small, fine coats

Aimed squarely at Chihuahuas, Yorkies, Maltese and young puppies, the four guard combs handle face-framing and body length on delicate coats. On thick adult double coats it will labour, so keep it to the small-dog jobs it was designed for and it rewards you with a clean, even finish. Short, light strokes and frequent combing prevent the fine hair bunching under the blade.

Trim around the eyes with a comb, never the bare blade, to keep a safe gap from the skin.

Safety note

Use the smallest guard around paw pads and sanitary areas where skin is thin and folds easily.

Frequently Asked

Is the Sminiker kit suitable for puppies?

Yes. Its low noise, gentle vibration and rounded blade make it a kind choice for puppies and small breeds learning to be groomed. Keep first sessions short.

Can it handle bigger dogs with thick coats?

It is underpowered for dense coats and better suited to small and short-coated dogs. For thick or double coats, choose a more powerful mains kit.

How long does the battery last?

Around 90 minutes per charge, which comfortably covers a small dog. Charge fully before grooming a larger dog to avoid running flat mid-groom.

Do the guard combs stay on well?

They hold fine once seated firmly, but push each one on until it clicks. If a guard is not fully home it can slip during use.
